Romantic Breaks - Dublin
Dublin is great city to spend the weekend on a romantic getaway; there are lots to keep you and your partner entertained for the whole weekend and longer. It’s just a short trip by plane or you could take the Ferry, which leaves from Holyhead. Load’s of low cost airlines fly to Dublin daily from all over the UK, so you should have no problems finding transport.
To help you fit as much as possible into your romantic weekend away, I have put together some ideas of how you might like to spend your time in Dublin; the city has bags of charm and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with the city, as well as falling in love with each other all over again.
Day One
To start your weekend in Dublin I recommend a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride around the city. The driver will show you some of the best sites in the city and the ride will also give you your bearings, for the rest of the weekend.
You can then take to the streets on foot to see some of Dublin’s famous history; with so many historic buildings to see it will be difficult to know where to start. The Christ Church Cathedral is one of Dublin’s oldest buildings and a very popular landmark; it dates back to the 11th century and displays many historical artefacts.
Then stop for a spot of lunch in the Chorus CafĂ© which is situated on the site where Handel’s Messiah was first performed in 1742 - look over the public courtyard dedicated to Handel with a statue of the great man himself.
After lunch you could visit a few more historical or touristy sites:
- Tailors Hall is the only remaining Guild Hall in Dublin and dates back to the 18th century.
- “Dudlinia and the Medieval Viking World” is one of Dublin’s most popular tourist attractions, with reconstructions taking you back to medieval times - lots of fun for you both!
- Dublin Castle - situated in the heart of historic Dublin, you can tour The State Apartments, Undercroft and Chapel Royal.
- Dublin Zoo - spend the afternoon with the animals in the famous zoo.
If you don’t want to do the tourist sites, you could spend the afternoon shopping; Dublin has some great shopping, so you could treat your partner to a fabulous romantic gift.
For the evening
Back to the room for a quick wash and change ready for a fun and romantic evening out. Ireland’s nightlife is world famous so it will be a night to remember!
You can choose from romantic candle lit restaurants; Irish music, dancing and fantastic Irish food at locations such as The Merry Ploughboys; or head to The Brazen Head, for an evening of food, Folk Stories and Fairies. There is something for everyone in the wonderful city of Dublin.
Remember to bookmark our site, for day 2 of our romantic trip to Dublin.
