Romantic Picnic in the Park

Today is June the 21st - the first day of summer. Looking out of the window, I can see that it is starting to rain, so it is officially the start of the British Summer - rain, rain and probably some more rain (time to start looking forward to a couple of weeks in Spain). June the 21st is also the Summer Solstice.

As it’s the first day of summer, a romantic picnic is on the cards. Hopefully the rain will stop before lunchtime!

A picnic makes a lovely romantic surprise for the girlfriend/wife and is incredible easy to organise. Pack yourself a few sandwiches, a travel rug and a nice bottle of wine and away you go. What more could you ask for on the first day of summer?
Romantic Picnic My favourite picnic basket would include:

  • Chilled bottle of wine
  • Freshly baked bread
  • Smoked salmon
  • Cooked meats, such as ham and chicken
  • Strawberries or fresh fruit
  • Chocolate cakes

All of the items you need will be available in your local shop or supermarket. You might even have most of the ingredients in your fridge, so what are you waiting for?

To make the picnic more romantic and extra special, why not try:

  • Hide a single red rose in the basket
  • Bring a chilled bottle of champagne
  • Cut the sandwiches into heart shapes
  • Write a love poem or note to accompany the food
  • Arrange for a special treat, such as a boat ride or carriage ride after the picnic

You can take your picnic anywhere and you don’t have to go far to make it a romantic event. A picnic in the garden can be just as romantic, as a trip away. Think about where your girlfriend/wife would like to go; are there any places you used to go that would bring back good memories? Does your other half love the countryside? Try and make it an extra special place if you can!

Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

  • The local park
  • On the beach
  • In the back garden
  • Country parks and gardens
  • Trip to the countryside
  • Theme park or adventure day
  • At the canal side or riverbank

Have a great day out and I hope the sun shines for you.

Romeo.
